With the current period drama “Downton Abbey” influencing today’s fashion vintage inspired Edwardian bohemia seems to be coming to the forefront giving a timeless and elegant style to a vintage Edwardian wedding theme.

A venue that will greatly impress is the famous Palm Court at the historic Waldorf Hilton hotel in London.

This iconic room has been exquisitely restored to its former glory, with beautiful architectural detailing, very much reflecting the Edwardian era.

Several original Edwardian touches are still there – the historic clock, ornate lanterns, and stunning columns and cornicing.

In the historic Palm Court ballroom it is easy to recreate the glamour and grandeur of an Edwardian wedding theme, to serve a luxurious wedding banquet and entertain wedding guests in a very grand manner.

For further Edwardian inspiration these beautiful designed vintage style wedding invitations are perfect from Urbancouturepaperweddingstuff.

Often taking something old to celebrate something new gives a certain uniqueness and personalisation to a wedding. It is just a matter of cherry picking a few vintage elements and mixing some modern twists to create a fabulous vintage look. For example, use dainty lace and sumptuous silk to enhance gorgeous vintage accessories. Just imagine a beautiful period room with magnificent centrepieces, vintage style furniture, and decadent table place settings. There are so many fabulous options it is difficult to know where to start.

A great starting point is to choose a colour palette which is in keeping with the Edwardian era, such as cheerful light pastel shades, in the colours of English garden flowers – primrose yellows, leaf greens and wisteria lilacs, toned with shades of grey for a tranquil setting. Darker shades can be added for contrast.

When choosing an Edwardian colour palette, soft whites, creamy yellows and Edwardian greens are fabulous wedding colours, when combined with touches of gold. Green is especially fitting for Edwardian style bridesmaids.

Classical styles are perfect for bridesmaids dresses, maybe with a few modern twists, like this feminine bandeau style short dress, with a ruche body, a fitted bow belted waist and a flared, layered chiffon skirt. This Allure Coast dress in thyme is available at John Lewis and it will look extremely sophisticated with a pair of dainty heels and sparkling jewels.

An Edwardian bridal style should be elegant. A complete vision of  exquisite lace, showing a perfect silhouette. Take this Floor sweeping, elegant, embroidered bridal gown from Phase Eight available at John Lewis. The dress is designed with a simple neck line, capped sleeves, a pearl beaded waistband, flattering panelling, a beautiful longline hem, and all over organza. It is a very stylish gown, giving the perfect Edwardian silhouette figure.  For embellishment  add a simple bridal bouquet like the one from Martha Stewart Weddings, consisting of a single type of flower, such as lily of the valley, or sweet scented orange blossoms. To include a little Edwardian style add a brooch, or long silk gloves, and to create the overall bridal look, add a few statement jewels, such as these exquisite fleur drop earrings from the Downton Abbey collection available at John Lewis.

Formal male attire must include a morning coat worn with striped trousers, though for an evening wedding a formal suit with a winged collar shirt and white bow tie is also very fitting.

Design Edwardian wedding tablescapes with accessories such as tiered cake stands  from Amara Living to hold beautiful lace style cupcakes; pretty ornate photograph frames to display menus, table names or family pictures; and, elegant serving platters. Gold bird cages or candelabras are a must for table centrepieces and Edwardian dressing screens are perfect for dividing extra large  spaces.

Royal Worcester china tea cups are not only ideal for serving tea in but also for displaying small rose posies. Enhance your wedding decor with lace edged placemats, lace napkins, lace drapes over tables and to dress reception chairs. Lace is also stylish to add to table plans, invitations, and menu cards.   Edwardian style wedding parasols are another fantastic wedding accessory for enhancing wedding photographs, and they also can be used for breathtaking floral arrangements.

Swan wedding cake

You really must push the boat out when it comes to an Edwardian style wedding cake. For example, this bespoke swan cake designed for the Great Gatsby premiere by Katie Franklin from Pomp De France is just gorgeous and will not fail to impress. Katie Frankin designs cakes to die for, bold, in your face, cakes, which are the perfect statement piece you need for an Edwardian style wedding reception. I suggest you take a look at her portfolio of cake designs.

Finally for wedding transport, book a horse and carriage to arrive in true Edwardian style.

If you get the Edwardian wedding theme right it will bring a breath of fresh air to a delightful wedding day.
