Poppy red lips for bride

With the garden full of red poppies and the colour red being linked with the notion of love I thought it would be an ideal time to look at a poppy red wedding theme.

Taking the poppy as inspiration, the red must be vivid.  Poppies are very dramatic and yet have an exciting edge to them, with petals so delicate a drop of rain or a gust of wind will easily damage them.

I feel red gives an air of sophistication, sex appeal and an ‘if you dare style’ to a wedding celebration.

25% of young brides are turning their back on the traditional white wedding dress and opting for other colours such as blue, pink and red, plus with red being the chosen colour for many Asian bride’s wedding dresses it seems times are changing.

With fresh ideas on the overall bridal look a red gown may not seem too outrageous; if  red is a little too over daring then a pair of poppy red shoes hidden under the wedding dress will bring that element of surprise and add a touch of red.

I adore these three beautiful simple style dresses:

The phase eight sweetheart short dress in poppy red with short sleeves and full skirt, great for a moden looking bride or for bridemaids.

A dye-to-order Ghost Monique poinsetta dress in satin texture with a flattering cross-over v-neckline, fitted empire waist, and a v-back with an elegant tie back detail, great for a daring bride or chief bridesmaid.

The beautiful phase eight carolina wedding dress, embellished lace texture wedding gown with tape work detailing and a sheer lace panel at the chest and back, completed with a satin belt to draw the waist to give a flared skirt and soft jersey lining for total comfort.

Shoes are Red Patent Stiletto Heel Court Shoe for the ultimate shine, or a simple pair of bridal diamante embellished satin court shoes, both elegant in their own way and by Dune.

The opening picture shows a red lip clutch bag from Lulu Guinness’s collection which I think is just fabulous fun and if you dare, poppy red lipstick, to finish the look, but only if red lips suit.

Hair and make-up is a very personal choice and should be natural.

Poppy red accessories and jewellery are great for completing the overall look, but don’t overdo things.

The men folk can bring in the red wedding theme simply through accents of red from a red tie clip  by Hugo Boss to dress shirt studs in red by Denison Boston.

For wedding decor there are lots of choices and ideas available.

Red is a great colour for brightening up wedding tables and chairs, you can have a full red table cloth or just a red  runner and this Cath Kidston material makes a great table runner.

Red bunting is also a nice way to add in the red tones, and Shades Of Red Cotton Bunting is available from Notonthehighstreet.

Red table decor

Red table decor can be anything from a simple red ribbon, pearls threaded on red string, a scattering of red rose petals, red table name cards with red and white twine,  red covered chocolates favours, to red table centrepeices.

This Not On The High Street large red jug hand finished  filled with red and white roses will add just a splash of red to complete the wedding table.

I have used buttons for table confetti and these red heart buttons are ideal.

For the top table this just married license plate in red adds to the fun, although it is said ” It is rude to write in red”, I am sure for this occasion it will be overlooked.

Finally a wedding cake covered in poppies will be the icing on the cake, or if that is a little over the top just add some red fruit or red icing.

This contemporary  white chocolate swirl wedding cake from Marks and Spencers, can be stacked upside down and filled with raspberries for something a little different.
