Wedding ideas

Buck the current wedding trends with a few fresh wedding ideas. After reviewing the popular wedding trends over the summer NS feels a little modernisation would not go amiss

to some of the most popular wedding details, adding a breath of fresh air in to those favourite wedding designs for a little bit of wedding individuality.

Rustic charms seem to still be very popular at the moment, with up-cycling being very much in vogue, from jam jars to apple crates being used for wedding decor.

With a little imagination some of these up-cycled items can make fabulous table centrepieces to simple t-light holders. You can use anything from cut glass charity shop finds to fabulous wooden jewellery boxes. The more mismatched vintage items you use will give a certain wedding charm and a individual wedding style.

Large Wooden Crate

If you are unable to find enough upcycled items to fit your design then the high street is one place to look, such as these fabulous rustic wooden crates, emblazoned with ‘farm produce’ available from John Lewis.

Burlap and lace

With a rustic feel in mind you may find burlap and lace is just irresistible when adding wedding decor, and can be tied on reception chairs, run along reception tables and even used for decorating the bridal bouquet.

Burlap and lace backdrop

To avoid looking like every burlap and lace wedding, with a little imagination you can add your own twist, like this hessian and lace ribbon curtain from just add a dress, available from Not On The High Street, which will add a perfect backdrop to a top table. Another way to be a little different is to mix in your wedding colour scheme through coloured thread, string, fabric or ribbon.

If you are not into the rustic charm then it seems more glitzy styles are still around, but one bit of advice from most designers is to remember the chosen wedding theme must suit you both and be meaningful; don’t just follow the current wedding trends.

Shimmering table linen

At NS we do question if bold patterns are becoming a thing of the past, and block colouring is more in keeping with the wedding look, especially when embellished with delicate pastel prints or jazzed up with a shimmering sequin runner.

When it comes to colour choice at NS we always look to nature and the season for inspiration, and feel that spring and summer opens up the wedding world to beautiful citrus shades such as lemon, lime and orange, through to vibrant berry shades, from bright strawberry and raspberry tones to more succulent darker shades of blackcurrant. For autumn and winter weddings metallic colours always seem to play a large part in our colour schemes, from shimmering cool silver to winter warm golds. At NS we feel you should not be too influenced by other people and their wedding colour schemes, you should choose colours you like and feel happy around.

miniature deserts

On the food front, are food stations ready for a makeover, especially with treats being more personalised, with cookies and cakes carrying little messages and lots more treats being homemade. If time is limited another great idea is to have a chef prepare a miniature selection of your favourite desert for each table. Another crazy idea from NS is to serve a luxury afternoon tea instead of a sit down menu.

Old ladders

Finally, the photo booths seem here to stay, but rather than some unattractive box in the corner, dress the area to match the rest of the wedding decor and encourage groups to take part.

Hanging Moss Trio

Such as this hanging moss trio which will make a fabulous modern photo backdrop without costing the earth available from Marks and Spencers.

With just a little imagination we believe at NS anything is possible.
